Fun Filled Summer Adventures

Fun Filled Summer Adventures

Are you looking for ideas to keep your children entertained during the summer holidays? As parents of three children we know first hand that the holidays can be a bit of a juggle and that it can be tricky to think of things to do sometimes...so we wanted to share some of our favourite and affordable activities to keep them busy and happy all summer long.

We've included a downloadable, printable tick list of 15 easy ideas that you can stick on the fridge and look to for inspiration whenever you need it, or that the kids can look at themselves if they're stuck for something to do. Sometimes the simplest things and little adventures are the best kind of fun and where childhood memories are made.

Build a den

Grab some blankets, pillows, and chairs to create the ultimate cozy hideout. Let little their imaginations run wild as they turn the living room into a fort fit for a king or queen. They're great fun to snuggle up in with a book too.

Enjoy a picnic

Pack up a picnic blanket, add some fun paper plates and napkins, sandwiches, fruit, and treats, and head outside for lunch. Bring some teddies, dolls or soft toys to add some fun, or set them up their own tea party with some wooden play food.

Bake a cake

Get busy in the kitchen and bake a delicious cake together. Baking is really fun and a great way to learn too. Everyone can help with weighing, mixing, pouring and decorating and of course enjoying the finished product!

Go to the park

Take a trip to the park for some fresh air and outdoor play. Climbing, swinging, sliding and exploring is a great way to spend an hour or two and burn off some energy. We love to visit different play grounds in our area to mix it up a bit and sometimes tie a visit in to a cafe afterwards if there is one.

Go swimming

Cool off on a hot day by taking a dip at your local swimming pool or in the paddling pool or sprinkler at home. Our children have always loved water play and when they were little were super happy with a tray or washing up tub and pots in the garden, pouring and scooping and making potions

Go to the beach

Summer calls for a day at the beach! There's hours of fun to be had with a bucket and spade building sandcastles, collecting seashells and pebbles, looking for treasure and rock pooling.

Choose a new book to read

Visit your local library or come and see us and pick out a new book to dive into. Finding a shady spot to sit and read together on a sunny day, or a calm nook inside on rainy days is an absolute joy.

Have a movie afternoon

Pop some popcorn, snuggle up on the sofa, and watch your favourite film, or discover a new one. Whether it's animated classics or superhero adventures, a movie afternoon is always a hit and perfect for rainy days.

Go for a walk, scooter ride, or bike ride

Explore your local area on foot, scooter, or by bike. You can point out  and talk about interesting sights along the way, play I-Spy, or simply enjoy the fresh air and exercise.

Play a game or do a puzzle

Challenge their minds with a board game or puzzle. Whether it's a game of matching pairs, playing snap or completing a puzzle or two they'll love spending time together like this.

Do something creative

Unleash their artistic side with drawing, coloring, painting, sticking, junk modelling, pavement chalking or doing fun craft kit. Our children have always loved decorating a cardboard box, turning it into a fort or a rocket or playing with playdough or modelling clay.

Play in the garden

Make the most of the great outdoors by playing in the garden. Whether it's running through sprinklers, planting flowers, or simply enjoying nature, the possibilities are endless and the fresh air usually works wonders!

See friends

Arrange playdates with their friends for some social interaction and fun. Let them run wild, share toys, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Parenting always feels easier when you team up too!

Enjoy an Ice Cream

Nothing says summer like an ice cream! Whether it's a tub, a classic cone,  or a sundae it's the perfect treat on a hot day. You can set up an ice cream station at home with lots of different toppings and sauces or come and visit us an enjoy one of our delicious tubs of Jude's Ice Cream.
